Litter Picking
Friends of Ilkley Moor have formed a volunteer litter picking group. Owen Wells, FoIM chairman said “One of our members got in touch to say she was going litter picking and it would be good to meet up with other like-minded helpers for a bit of company. So we contacted our members about this and we now have over 20 volunteers and growing!”
This is in addition to our volunteer work parties who are on the Moor every week, which goes to reinforce the great work our members do, giving their time to help make Ilkley a lovely place to live. Our volunteers operate not only on the Moor but throughout town.
How we organise the group
We have no organised picks, it is simply a WhatsApp Group that enables people to share information about problems etc, and to co-ordinate their activities if they so wish. So it is very relaxed, you can choose the amount of time you want to give and you decide when you want to go litter picking that fits in with your schedule.
But of course all our activities must conform to any covid regulations at the time.
We provide the equipment
With the assistance of Bradford MDC we help out with litter picking equipment. We equip all the members of the group with a pair of high quality pickers, hoops to hold open bags, gloves, a hi-vis vest and as many bags as they want (BMDC keeps us topped up with bags).
How to join our group
So if you would like to join FoIM and also get involved with our wonderful litter picking group simply get in touch.
